Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Greater London Parish, Southall, London established the Community Youth Development (CYD) Program in our parish to engage with the young people in our community. CYD combines the natural instincts of young people as they desire to create change in their surrounding environments by developing partnerships between youth-related organizations and community development agencies like our church to create new opportunities for youths to serve their communities while developing their personal abilities.
It aims at tackling anti-social behaviour in order to create a peaceful community. CYD programs engage young people in intentional, productive, and constructive ways while recognizing and enhancing their strengths. These programs promote positive outcomes by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and giving the support that is needed to develop young people’s assets and prevent risky behaviours.
Researchers, educators, and parents agree that many adolescents are still not fully prepared to accept the roles and responsibilities of adulthood in today’s increasingly complex, technical, and multicultural world. To meet these challenges, many communities have developed programs that seek to help their youths acquire the education, training, social and emotional skills, and supportive relationships that will help them function well during adolescence and adulthood.
Our church at Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Greater London Parish, Southall, London actively participate in these programs through the donations from the kind-hearted members of the public and the National Lottery Funded Community Program.
